Return to Little Grimley

Last Tango in GrimleyReturn to Little Grimley

Welcome to the world of Little Grimley!

Little Grimley is a small parochial community which is home to one of the world’s most memorable community theatres.

Why so memorable? Because they are bad, really bad. More than that, they are unbelievably inept and horribly incompetent. Yet, no matter how things go, they always manage to be “right on the night” because the show “must go on”.

These two plays from playwright David Tristram showcase both the best AND the worst of the four players in the Little Grimley Amateur Theatre Society.

Gordon is the pretentious director who lacks talent, but can’t stop criticising everyone else. He thinks he’s the leader and plays the part well. However, the only reason the others follow is that they have even less of a clue than he does.

Margaret is the sensible one. She’s also the peace maker (when she’s not fighting with Bernard). If it wasn’t for Margaret the whole organisation would have fallen apart years ago. Unfortunately she’s a follower, not a leader… but when there’s no one to follow –

Joyce is the star – at least in her own mind! She’s that wonderful person in amateur theatre who thinks’ she’s ten times better than she is. But she holds things together and often saves the day.

Bernard is…well, Bernard (think Bananas)! If it’s possible for things to go wrong, and when it isn’t Gordon’s fault, it’s Bernard’s. He tries, but he fails. He cares a lot, but doesn’t care at all. Bernard is the one that just ends up in the mess of it!

Director Andrew Watson has brought together a dynamic cast.

The Plays:

Last Tango in Little Grimley.

Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society is in trouble. The membership has dwindled to four – the audiences aren’t much bigger – and if they don’t come up with some rent money soon, they’re going to be thrown out. “There’s only one thing that sells tickets these days” argues Gordon the Chairman. “Sex!”

Thus begins the chaotic and hilarious build-up to an evening of extraordinary home-grown drama – an evening the locals would never forget!

Last Panto in Little Grimley.

The Last Panto in Little Grimley sees Gordon, Margaret, Joyce and Bernard tackle the Christmas pantomime with predictably hilarious results.

Imagine the possibility of everything going wrong – and then it does! And yet somehow goes right.

The Cast: Andrew Tait (Gordon); Heather O’Brien (Margaret); Janet Beams (Joyce); Greg Judd (Bernard)

Performance dates: 1 – 11 July 2015.
